Every year, IBPS CWE (Common Written Examination) is conducted to select eligible candidates to the post of officers and clerks in various government sector banks by IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection Board). IBPS is a one of the leading recruitment bodies, which provides recruitment services to all Public-Sector Banks, RBI, NABARD, Insurance companies and those, which are member financial bodies of the IBPS.

Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) started Common Written Examination (CWE) in the year 2011 to recruit officers and clerks in Public Sector Banks. Since then, IBPS exam has been happening every year and is now happening in 2019 in its 9th edition. It accepts online application through its official website for registration of the examination and conducts its all examination through online mode at various centers throughout India. Every year around 70-80 lakh applications are received by IBPS for the recruitment in various government Institutions and at various positions.


IBPS Conduct PO Common Written Examination (CWE) to recruit probationary officers in Public Sector Banks. It accepts online application through its official website for registration of the examination. Earlier, this exam was known as IBPS PO exam.Every year around 25 Lakh eligible candidates fill the online application form and more than 20 Lakh aspirants appear in the exam. The candidates selected after final interview process will get the opportunity to work in their choice of Bank as a Probationary Officer.

IBPS PO Prelims exam will be conducted in online mode in multiple shifts at various exam centers throughout India.

Vacancies:The official notification of IBPS PO 2019 is expected to be released on August 2019. The Online Registration for IBPS PO 2019 will start from August 2019. Last year in 2018, there were 4252+ vacancies for the post of probationary officer and management trainees (MT).

It is expected that there will be around 5500+ vacancies this year.


IBPS PO Eligibility Criteria – 2019

Educational Qualification : The eligibility criteria for the IBPS CWE PO exam is Graduation Degree in any of the streams such as BA, B.Com, BSc, B.Tech, etc.from a University recognized by the Government of India. The percentage of marks obtained in Graduation should be mentioned at the time of registration for the IBPS Bank-PO examination.

Computer Literacy: Knowledge of computer operation is a must as IBPS PO exam is conducted online.

Language Proficiency: Candidates should have verbal and written proficiency in an official language of the State/UT. The candidate should be able to read, write and speak the language.


Age Eligibility: 20 – 30 Years


Following stages are involved in the selection procedure of IBPS PO –


  • Preliminary Exam
  • Mains Exam
  • Interview


The first Stage is the Preliminary Exam, this exam is only qualifying in nature in which a total of 100 questions would be given to solve in time limit of 1 Hour. There have been no changes in this exam. It is conducted through an online mode in three sections namely Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude and English Language. Candidates must clear the cut-off in all 3 sections individually as well as overall to qualify for the IBPS PO Main exam. The following table depicts the complete exam pattern IBPS PO PRE 2019-2020.

There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer.


This is the most important exam of IBPS PO recruitment and it holds the utmost importance of IBPS PO selection. The candidate who will clear the sectional as well as overall cutoff in preliminary exam will be eligible to appear in mains exam. The tentative date of commencement of main exam is 30 November 2019.


IBPS (Institute of Banking Personnel Selection) conducts a common written exam or CWE

every year for the clerical cadre in multiple banks all over the country. All public

sector banks use CWE as a base to fill the vacancies for this post.

IBPS is conducting Clerk exam for the eighth year now and hence named IBPS Clerk CWE VII. The IBPS Clerk CWE exam is conducted on two levels- preliminary exam and mains. Students qualifying in both these exams are thus selected for the post.

According to IBPS Official Calendar 2018-19, IBPS Clerk 2019 Prelims exam is scheduled on 07.12.2019, 08.12.2019, 14.12.2019 & 15.12.2019 and mains exam is scheduled on 25.01.2020. IBPS Clerk 2019 is going to be an opportunity for those who have not been able to get through SBI and other Bank Recruitment Exams.

The total number of vacancies for IBPS Clerk 2019 will be released with its official notification. IBPS introduced 7275 vacancies for IBPS Clerk 2018-19 Recruitment. We expect the vacancy to be of the same order for IBPS Clerk 2019 as well.

Eligibility Criteria – IBPS Clerk Exam

The candidate must fulfill the following two criteria to be eligible for the IBPS Clerk Exam 2019:

  • Age Limit (As on 01.09.2019): The candidate must be 20 Years to 28 Years. The final criteria for IBPS Clerk Exam 2019 will be released along with the official notification.
  • Educational Qualification: A candidate must possess the minimum qualification of Graduation in any discipline from a recognized University or any equivalent qualification recognized as such by the Central Government.
  • The candidate should have passed in English as one of the subjects at SSC/ HSC/Intermediate/ Graduation level. Candidate should possess certificate in proof of passing the qualifying examination.

IBPS Clerk Exam Pattern:

The IBPS Clerk exam occurs in two stages: Prelims and Mains. Both these papers follow online method of conducting written examination. The structure of the exam is as follows:

Phase-1: IBPS Clerk Preliminary Examination

The preliminary exam of IBPS Clerk CWE is an online exam testing a candidate on the basis of their aptitude, intellect and English. There are three sections in total and the candidate must clear the cut off of each section to proceed to the mains exam round. Candidates are required to solve the question paper in the time frame of 1 hour. The composite mark of the paper is 100 and the passing marks is decided by IBPS that is likely to change every year depending on the level of difficulty of the exam.

Phase-2: IBPS Clerk Mains Examination

Major changes have been observed in the Exam Pattern of IBPS Clerk 2017 Exam. The total duration and the number of questions asked in Mains Examination of IBPS Clerk 2017 Exam has been revised. In the latest update by IBPS, IBPS Clerk Mains Exam will now constitute of 190 questions that needs to be completed in a time frame of 160 minutes.

Previously, Computer Aptitude and Reasoning Ability Section used to be conducted separately. But, in the recent update by IBPS, both these sections are amalgamated together and will constitute of 50 questions that needs to be solved in a time duration of 45 minutes. Both Preliminary Exam and Mains Exam will be conducted bilingually, i.e. both in English and in Hindi. Let’s have a look at the Exam Pattern for IBPS Clerk CWE VII.
